Gold Panda broke out last year with his debut record Lucky Shiner, an album produced in the wake of a break-up.

The album is filled with emotional soundscapes, but one wouldn’t recognize his melancholy mindset while making it were it not for a bunch of annoyingly morose track titles.

Between “Before We Talked” and “I’m With You But I’m Lonely” is a track called “Marriage,” which Gold Panda chose as the center piece for his remix EP.

The remixers, Star Slinger, Baths, and Forest Swords, all take a stab at rehashing Gold Panda’s ode to matrimony, and each does so with audible success.

Okay, so Trinidad’s KES the Band didn’t win the top honor. That went to Machel Montano in the power competition and his jet-fueled song “Advantage.”

For double-time soca insanity Montano is pretty hard to beat. But he and the Dieffenthaller brothers of KES the Band weren’t directly competing anyway. KES the Band was going for the Groovy Soca title, which was just about handed over to them on the strength of their performance and their party anthem “Wotless.”

Groovy soca is more melodic and laid back — though by the time the bounding chorus to “Wotless” comes around it’s only marginally more chill than any other kind.
